5 Benefits of Outdoor Concrete Products

by Gabe Lawrence

When it comes to enhancing the backyard with patios, outdoor furniture, and decorative pieces, such as garden statues or birdbaths, homeowners can choose between many different materials. Concrete is perhaps the best choice, however. Here are five benefits of choosing concrete products for your outdoor living space.

1. Concrete Won't Rust

Outdoor furniture is often made of steel. Even if the manufacturer coats the steel, it will rust eventually. Decorative precast products such as concrete tables, benches, and statues will never rust.

2. Concrete Is Insect-Proof

While wooden outdoor furniture and decks may look nice, using these products is basically setting out the welcome mat for termites and carpenter ants. Even pressure-treated wood is not immune to the destruction these insects can cause.

Some homeowners opt for PVC decking to circumvent insects. However, these decks are prone to fading from harmful UV rays and may crack over time from repeated exposure to high temperatures. PVC decking also isn't a natural material. Precast concrete products such as patio pavers are natural and won't attract insects.

3. Concrete Is Heavy

Decorative precast concrete products are less likely to be blown over by high winds than other lightweight materials. If the winds are hurricane-strength, a concrete product would probably tip over rather than become an airborne projectile simply because of its weight. A summer storm isn't likely to topple your decorative concrete garden gnomes or birdbath like they would resin products.

4. Concrete Is Durable

Wood and other materials are eventually going to rot and decay, and in a wet, humid, and hot environment, it will happen sooner rather than later. Concrete will stand up better to wear and tear. You don't need to worry about weight limits before sitting on a concrete garden bench. Concrete products can also stand up to children and pets. With precast concrete products, you can be assured you won't need to replace it anytime soon.

5. Concrete Is Versatile

Just because something is made of concrete doesn't mean decorative precast concrete products all look and function the same. Manufacturers offer plenty of styles and design options, such as painted or stained concrete. Different finishes are available, such as rough to smooth and polished. This allows homeowners to choose colors and styles that complement the rest of their home. Decorative precast concrete can also be fashioned into virtually any shape.

From patios to furniture to backyard décor, concrete offers many uses. When you choose decorative or functional precast concrete products over other materials, you are choosing a worry-free way to enhance and beautify your outdoor living space.
